DEFINITION

Debate. Negotiation. What is going back and forth is a conversation, a negotiation, a debate of principles. ‘Back and forth’ proclaims that two opposing sides on an issue are discussing or debating the matter, one speaks, the other responds and so on, back and forth like a game of ping pong. (Compare to To and fro, Dicker, Pow wow, Hast out or Work it out.)
