DEFINITION

(Old fashioned) Proud and satisfied. A feeling of extreme jubilation. The phrase presents a picture of one’s chest filling with such esteem and growing so big that it makes the button on your shirt pop off. Also used as ‘bust your britches, britches is old fashioned reference to riding pants. (Compare to On cloud Nine.)
