Close the books

DEFINITION

End a project or investigation. Put a project or activity to an end. If the books (such as in accounting) are closed, no further action is being taken on the matter.  Alternatively used as ‘close the file’ in the matter of a police or court case or perhaps an employee file at a corporation.

“Well, now that he confessed to the robbery, we can close the book on this incident.”
