Cold feet

Lose the bravery to execute a difficult chore.  Lack of perseverance, usually at the last minute. Lose one’s enthusiasm. Imagine wanting to go swimming but once your foot touches cold water, you change  your mind. (Compare to Chicken.)

“I thought you were going to ask her on a date; don’t tell me you got cold feet?”
