Elvis Has Left the Building

DEFINITION

End of the performance. The show has come to an end. It’s all over. During the height of Elvis’ popularity, crowds would linger long after he left the stage, many hoping to meet him, so it became a common practice to announce that he has left the building, basically, everyone go home. (Compare to When the Fat Lady Sings.)
