(Old fashioned) Exclamation of frustration. A request for someone to perform a chore or complete a task as intended. Alternatively said “for the love of pete. ‘Pete’ probably refers to Saint Peter in the Christian Bible and suggests for the sake of god do what is morally correct. (Compare to For crying out loud.)
