Garden path

DEFINITION

Imaginary Eden. Easy fortune. A garden path evokes a wonderment of flowers and nature, so the phrase suggests a wonderful, secluded place of peace, but is used as a warning that someone is trying to lead you down such a path, but it may not be as hoped. (Compare to Pie in the sky, Primrose path or Dog and pony show.)

“I don’t like that salesman, he was leading us down the garden path with his worthless lies.”
