Get carried away

DEFINITION

Overzealous. ‘Carried away’ means one has stepped over the bounds of normalcy, so to get carried away is to lose one’s compass. (Compare to Worked  up.)

My husband is so avid about baseball, I hate to ask about a game, because he gets carried away and talks for hours.”
