DEFINITION

A.) Forsake an activity. Suggests one  has been attempting a chore but has stopped in failure or fatigue. “When I hurt my shoulder, I gave up golfing.” (Compare to Throw in the towel.)

B.) Admit. Confess one’s involvement or action. “When she asked me if I had taken her pie, I had to give up and be  honest.”
