DEFINITION

Deteriorating situation.  Suggests that an endeavor or predicament was not good in the first place, than further problems occurred to make it much worse. (Compare to Go downhill.)

“First the factory had a fire, next they lost a big customer so things went from bad to worse and the factory closed down completely.”
