High on the hog

DEFINITION

Extravagant living. A disparaging phrase for one who has no sense of saving money.  In the old days meat from ‘higher up on the hog’ was more valuable. (Compare to Live it up or High life.)

“They both have modest jobs, but you wouldn’t know it by the way they spend money and live high on the hog.”
