Keep an even keel


Maintain the status quo. Continue a course of action without distraction.  Proceeding smoothly. The status quo is successful. Keeping a situation manageable and comfortable. ‘Keel’ is used in the sense of a ship and when the keel is even, it sails properly. (Compare to Don’t rock the boat or Smooth sailing.)
