Kill the messenger


Anger at person who delivers bad news. Refers to historical incidents when a messenger was sent from one kingdom to the next with bad news, so the king had the messenger killed, even though the messenger was not the source of the bad news. Typically used by a business associate who imparts honest facts which are not hopeful to his superior officers.
