Landline

DEFINITION

Phone connected to external wires. Landline refers to the fact that an actual wire runs from your place onto telephone polls and to the phone switching station. It is opposite the more modern cellular phone which has no wire hooked to it. Though a landline seems outdated, during a power outage, it is more reliable, often, than a cell phone or the internet.
