Low-hanging fruit

DEFINITION

Easiest acquisition. Unchallenging path.¬† Less stressful action. The most effortless action to glean money or manage a chore leaving the remainder (higher-hanging fruit) as a tougher task for another time. Imagine you’re picking fruit from a tall tree, the simplest approach is to grab the fruit within reach, the low-hanging fruit. The phrase illustrates a lazier approach than getting a ladder, climbing and picking fruit at the top of the tree first. (Compare to Easy as pie; No muss, no fuss or Walk in the park.)

“In sales, I’ve gotten all the low-hanging fruit and I’m left with some tough clients to sell to, now.”
