Mind your Ps and Qs

DEFINITION

Proper form. Obey the rules. Behave properly. Pay your bills on time and other socially required tasks to ‘fit in’.  One theory on the origin of this phrase is that “P” refers to Pints and “Q” refers to Quarts and was a necessary recollection by pub waiters to know which item a patron had ordered. (Compare to Straight and narrow. Contrast with March to a different drummer or Swim against the tide.)
