Never see the light of day

DEFINITION

Prevent an opportunity. Concealed from view. Something that is hidden away either on purpose or through neglect. The phrase typically refers to something someone else does not want to make public. Never seeing daylight would portray a deep hole into which something is thrown away forever. Ensure that someone or something will never be seen again. This phrase is an implied threat to expunge something or someone. (Compare to Not now, not never.)

“A guy invented a way to make car tires that never wear out, but the rubber company bought his patent and made sure it never saw the light of day.”
