DEFINITION

Absent person.  If one can not find the hide (skin) nor hair of someone, then that person is long gone, disappeared, hidden beyond finding. (Compare to No show.)

“I haven’t seen hide nor hair of my shovel. I think the neighbor must have borrowed it without telling me.”
