On the verge

DEFINITION

Almost. Near to resolution. An action or decision is imminent. ‘Verge’ implies the edge of something, so to be on the verge is near the end of the resolution of a search or process. (Compare to On the tip of my tongue.)

“The new teacher was in a frenzy because the kids drove her crazy, I think she was on the verge of a break down.”
