Difference. Another version or explanation. Switching from one circumstance to a very different one.  Monetary coins normally have two different images on each side, so this idiom signals that things have switched from one side to the other. Also said as the ‘flip side of the coin’. (Contrast to  Two sides of the same coin.)

“They have a nice  house in a good  neighborhood, but on the other side of the coin, they live in a highly polluted atmosphere.”
