Pass muster

DEFINITION

Requisite. Meet the regulations.  A person or endeavor that meets desired requirements. An important review. ‘Muster’ derives from a military line up of soldiers for review by their officers, if one is not dressed properly, you do not pass muster. (Compare to Measure-up or Checks all the boxes.)

“If you are wearing those clothes to school today, I don’t think you’ll pass muster.”
