Patch-up

DEFINITION

Fix. Apply a patch to mend something. A nearly divorcing couple might patch-up their differences and remain married; you could patch-up a broken window temporarily until it gets fixed properly. Anytime a patch is used, something has been broken and needs mending.

“Their marriage was always on-again and off-again for years, but today they get along and seemed to have patched things up.”
