Patch-work

DEFINITION

Unorganized amalgam. The term signals a result that was pieced-together from disparate parts. Frankenstein, for example, was a patch-work being created from different body parts.  (Compare to Hodge-podge.)

“If you study a map of the U.S. and which states legalized capital punishment, it is a patch-work of some states here and some there.”
