Quick on the draw

Knowledgeable. Fast in response to a question or in reaction. Originally the phrase derives from quick to draw a gun from a holster and in old cowboy movies, shoot your opponent first, but nowadays refers to any instance of someone solving a problem or knowing the answer before others.

“A stand-up comic has to be quick on the draw to respond to any heckling from the audience.”
