Ratchet up

DEFINITION

Increase volume, speed or strength. A ‘ratchet’ is how gears in a machine are moved so to ratchet up is to go faster or  higher. (Compare to Ramp up, Sky rocketed or Crank up).

“If you want to win the foot race you are going to have to ratchet up your  training.”
