DEFINITION

Front seat in a vehicle. Co-pilot. In Old West days a stagecoach had a horse team driver as well as someone with a gun for protection in case of hostile Indians or robbers. Often used for circumstances that are NOT dangerous but suggests team-work.  accompanying him up front would be someone with a shotgun for  (Compare to Call dibs or Call shotgun.)
