Rub the wrong way

DEFINITION

Bother someone. Unintentional sour reaction to a person. Though we may enjoy being rubbed or massaged, if someone rubs us the wrong way, it is irritating. (Compare to Ruffle your feathers or Set one’s teeth on edge.) {see 50 Levels of Anger video}

“I don’t know about the new salesman the boss hired, he boasts too much and just plain rubs me the wrong way.”
