Scarce as hen’s teeth

DEFINITION

(Old fashioned) Very rare. Chickens have no teeth, so this phrase illustrates well the impossibility of something to be found or to occur. (Compare to Blue moon or Few and far between.)

“LP vinyl records of the band, Moody Blues, are as scarce as hen’s teeth, they can only be found on CDs.”
