Shoe is on the other foot

Reversal of fortunes. Switch in circumstances. The ‘shoe’ represents one’s forceful control over a situation or authority of command, but now it has switched from your foot to the very person being oppressed by your foot. It may also convey the idea of one who was poor is now rich and vice versa.  (Compare to Tables are turned).

“He always expected his wife to serve him in their marriage, but now that she is bed-ridden, the shoe is on the other foot and he must care for her.”
