DEFINITION

A.) Increase the volume so you can be heard. Raise one’s voice. “Speak up we can’t hear you in the back.”

B.) Encourage to offer an opinion. Speak on behalf or against a matter before a group making a decision. (Contrast with Speak out.) “Before we vote, does anyone want to speak up about the proposal?”
