Split the difference

Compromise in the middle of two differing amounts.  The difference is the amount in a negotiation that needs to reach a compromise. I want $100 for my old car,  you offer me $60 so the difference between our two offers is $40, so to split it ($20) we agree on $80. (Compare to Happy medium.)

“We argued over how much I should pay him for the broken window and finally we split the difference.”
