DEFINITION

(Old fashioned) Not hip.  Old fashioned manners. A boring person in contrast to someone who is ‘cool’. Typically used as a derogatory term for one who is not modern. (Compare to Straight arrow; Contrast with Square away.)

“I like her boyfriend but the clothes he wears and the slang he uses prove  he is a real square and not as cool as she is.”
