DEFINITION

A.) Apologize. What is being ‘taken back’ is one’s disparaging words or inappropriate actions. One can also take back the praise of someone who did not deserve it. (Compare to Make amends.)

“I take back everything I said about you because I’ve learned you mean well after all.”

B.) Return something to its source.

“I’m gonna take back this tie, it’s too¬† flashy.”
