Take the bull by the horns

DEFINITION

Grab an opportunity. Dominate a competition.  Take control over a situation. Imagine being attacked by a bull so to survive you would have to grab the bull, heroically, by the horns and try to control it. (Compare to  Dominate the backboards or Hold the reins.)
