Take the plunge

DEFINITION

Decide to act. Imagine your first time to  dive off (plunge off) of a  high diving board at a swimming pool. ‘Plunge’ also suggests a major action. To take the plunge means there was some  hesitation but now you have decided to proceed.

“After five years of dating, we took the plunge and decided to get married.”
