DEFINITION

Informant. Typically the phrase refers to someone who feels it necessary to tell authority figures any little fracture of the rules.  ‘Tale’ indicates a story, explaining and ‘tattle’ proclaims going to one’s superiors to tell.  (Compare to Rat on.)

“Stay away from him, anything you say he will tattle-tell back to the boss.”
