Trip-up

DEFINITION

Cause someone to fail. Delay or distract someone accidentally or on purpose. If you put your leg out while someone is walking in front of you, they will trip,  so the phrase is used as slang for any situation where an outcome was delayed or ruined. The trip up could be on purpose or by accident.   (Compare to Hiccup in the road.)

“If he hadn’t tripped us up with his delays, we could have been finished by now.”
