Window of opportunity

Momentary chance of success to act. ‘Window’ is used in the sense of a transitory, passing occurrence so one must act before it passes. (Compare to Strike while the iron is hot.)

“The owner died so while his wife decides what to do with the factory, we have the window of opportunity to buy it before she gets other offers.”
